Concept
We were commissioned by the Children’s Society to create an animation that highlights the breadth of their work and their vision for the future, while capturing the positive impact they have on young people across the UK. The film follows a shared journey, placing the audience alongside a symbolic balloon as it sweeps across a variety of landscapes and moments, connecting different stories in a fluid and uplifting way.
As the balloon travels, it carries us through a series of key scenes—from a countryside fundraiser to an intimate team-building campfire—before arriving at a vibrant street celebration. This final moment acts as a joyful culmination, bringing together the energy, community, and purpose at the heart of the Children’s Society’s work.
Visually, the animation is inspired by a moving young person’s book, with each scene feeling like a page brought to life. The flowing transitions and continuous movement reinforce the sense that we are on the same journey, highlighting the vast and far-reaching positive effect the Children’s Society has on young people throughout the UK.
THE WAY AHEAD -
ANIMATED ADVERT
THE
PROCESS
This animation explores how the Children’s Society’s wide-ranging work can be brought together into a single, continuous journey. We centred the concept around a symbolic balloon travelling across different environments, allowing the viewer to experience a variety of moments that reflect the organisation’s impact on young people. Each scene represents a different facet of their work, building towards a final, unified celebration.
Working closely with the Children’s Society team, as well as a focus group of young people, we developed the script and overall visual direction of the film. After defining key moments—such as a countryside fundraiser, a team-building campfire, and a large-scale street celebration—we created a storyboard to map the balloon’s path and ensure each transition felt seamless and connected.
We then moved into production, bringing the story to life through a visual style inspired by a moving young person’s book. Each scene was designed to feel like a page unfolding in real time, with the balloon guiding both the narrative and the viewer.
